My Marvelous Husband

Posted on August 8th, 2010 in All This Useless Beauty,Girls Talk,Love Field by Mrs. Hall

Can I say enough about my sweet husband? First of all, he picks me up at the airport at 9:00 Friday night and brings Izzy.

Then he arranges dinner with our friends Saturday night so I can have some fun – and even takes me for dessert after.

Then he hangs his antlers to surprise me, and moves them when I think they should be lower.

And Sunday morning he drives me to Cafe Brazil on his motorcycle for brunch. And tonight he is making veg fajitas for me.

Hooray for Les!

Nova

So many new rules to follow…. we’re limiting ourselves to one meal out a week. Which is actually working out great. Last night was our night and we went to Kelly Hightower’s new place, Nova. So nice to have a cool place in walking distance. Of course, other rules include dieting and exercising like crazy so I can be cute for upcoming trips. Sigh. Still, this salmon on a stick was delish, as well as light. Les is in the backyard working on our canopy of white lights even though it is One. Hundred. Three. Degrees. My husband, I think I’ll keep him.

Abacus

Skirt Steak

So, had the Abacus anniversary dinner last night. We had sushi to start, which was pretty good. Then shared two small plates. Above is skirt steak on some kind of polenta cake.

Lobster Shooters

The other was their signature dish of lobster shooters: chunks of fried lobster in sake cups. You pour a red curry sauce over them and toss them back. You can find 500 reviews on the internet raving about them, but we just thought they were weird.

And we ended with this cheesecake. On the whole, an okay meal which is surprising considering Abacus is one of the “best restaurants in Dallas.” But the company was marvelous.

Happy Birthday Mr. Hall

Sign

Mr. Hall hit the big 5-5 this week. Wednesday morning we had our traditional Waffle House breakfast. Les had his usual goof-off day following that: Brunch with Bernard at his new coffee shop and shopping at Harbor Freight. Then we had empanadas at the new Argentinian place in the neighborhood. But the big celebration is Saturday night at Lawry’s with our friends: Prime Rib and Yorkshire Pudding. Too bad his iPad hasn’t shipped yet. No presents! :-(

Happy 2nd

daisies and lilies

Our 2nd anniversary was on Tuesday. Les gave me two lovely bouquets and we went to eat at Neighborhood Services. I think it’s probably our favorite restaurant in Dallas right now. If only they took reservations! Tonight, we’re going to a fabulous Pizza and Prosecco party at my boss’ luxe compound. We are celebrating the engagement of one of my colleagues. My boss is a huge Michael Jackson fan, so we will be grooving to Thriller while we party.

Old Friends

Dinner with P&C

We haven’t seen Philip and Craig much lately. They sold their house and moved out of the neighborhood. But we miss them! They came over tonight and we served a delicious meal: manchego cheese and figs, arugula and strawberry salad, grilled chicken, and creme brulee. Mmmmmm…. So good to catch up. Les has known Philip and Craig for about 25 years. He has such a gift for keeping friends.

Visiting the Fam

Dad chilling

On our way to Folly Beach, we stopped off at Daddy’s place for a visit. Dad is a patriot, a proud Republican, a veteran of three wars, a full-time volunteer for Fighting Abuse In The Home and an elder in his church. I’d say he really kicks ass for an 83-year old!!

Lunch at the Dillard House

Maybe it’s the food that they serve him at Dillard House. Yes, that was for FOUR people. We had a lovely and relaxing time hanging out on the porch, eating fried food, and going into town. Then we headed off to Charleston.

Pics of Dad’s great place in the country are here.
