Plus… we sampled the Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Champagne that will be served… Scrumptious Pictures here.

Night Out in Dallas

calamari1.JPG

We went out with Martha and Bryan last night… first to Urbano… and then for gelato at Paciugo in Victory Park. Lots of good photo ops for Lez. Some good pix by him here.

We decided that the calamari above looked like a Mickey Mouse hat…. we thought about saving it and giving it to Amy and Dave, considering they have a Mickey Mouse themed house, complete with Mickey shaped sink in the bathroom….. Amy could eat it while wearing her Mickey shaped diamond earrings.

One week…

Until the wedding and a honeymoon in Mexico. Playa Del Carmen to be exact, and pictured above. Planning lots of beach time, with maybe a day trip to Tulum for the ruins. Aaaaah! Can’t wait.

Pink Panty Pulldown Party

Lisa, Martha and Regina got together and threw a Pink Panty Pulldown Party for our engagement. No panties were pulled down, that’s just the name of a drink. Tastes a bit like a Cosmopolitan, actually. We had great fun, lots of laughs, some dancing (including an interpretive dance by Martha), some lovely gifts and awesome food (also by Martha). Pictures of the festivities are here.

Marin County

Took a little trip to San Francisco. I spent time in San Jose, Walnut Creek and downtown, but only remembered to take pictures in Marin County. Too bad Les isn’t here to take pictures because it is a photogenic place. I’m staying at the nicest hotel that I’ve ever stayed at: The Acqua. Two balconies, a fireplace, and a jacuzzi tub. Exquisitely decorated, too. But the weather and scenery are the real stars of the show. No wonder it’s so expensive to live here. Pix of trip are here.

Hair Practice

Craig took me to see Ryan, who does wedding up-dos. We’ll stick a couple of rununculus on the side of this, and call it a hair do. I didn’t really want to wear my hair up, but given that it will be July, and I’ll be nervous, sweaty, and tipsy, maybe it’s better that I don’t have to worry about my hair. We also went and looked at flowers. All white: hydrangeas, peonies, roses, rununculus. I had a sinking spell around the time that Craig decided that Les needed to be fully outfitted in Ralph Lauren for the wedding, but rebounded with a glass of wine at his house. He practiced doing my make up for the wedding, which surprisingly turned out great. Dress status: fits at the moment. 3 weeks to go.

The Last 24 Hours

First Martha came over, and then Philip and then Craig. We were going to go out, but ended up opening a bottle of wonderful New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, lighting the candles, and ordering Chan Thai. Everyone waddled out drunk and full by 8:00.

This afternoon we went to the County Clerk’s office and got our marriage license. We were armed and dangerous with birth certificates, passports, driver’s licenses, green cards, and naturalization papers. But she just took our driver’s licenses and 41 bucks and we were done. We went by Beckley Brewhouse for lunch. It was empty but we hung out watching some MTV-like thing called the Tube and chatting with a 20-something named Pasqual who thought we were pretty hip for old farts. At least we like to think that’s what she was thinking.

When we got home we opened more wedding gifts including yummy candlesticks from Tiffany from some folks at work. Dang, weddings, what a concept.

Surprise!

surprise1.JPG

The gang at my work TOTALLY surprised me with a wedding shower last night. They called a late budget meeting, which was a total ruse to keep me out of the way. And I thought that I had an even later meeting after that, but when I walked in I was showered with bubbles and a huge pile of presents. AND Les was there. He really keeps a good secret. We got a ton of good gear from William-Sonoma. I’m very clever to have gotten such a good job with such wonderful people. What a great concept weddings are: everyone has to pay attention to you and give you presents. I love it.

I hope to have more pix later and I might even be vulgar enough to post a picture of all of our gifts. I haven’t decided yet.

Summit Meeting

It took a village of handsome men to help us decide on the menu and cake for the wedding. Estefan brought a menu of choices and we picked lobster bisque, watermelon and feta salad, shrimp cocktail, apple/cheddar/ham tarts, and cold roast beef sandwiches.

Hal is making the cake and we had prolonged conversation about red velvet and cream cheese frosting:

vs.
coconut-pineapple and butter-cream frosting:

In the end coconut-pineapple prevailed. We’re so lucky to have so many lovely friends to help us.

wedding-band.JPG

Les and I got my wedding band this week. I never thought I really wanted any bling, but I really like the ring. How weird.

Les hasn’t picked out his band yet, but I kind of like this one that he is considering…. This weekend… we meet with Tony and Hal at Hattie’s to go over the food, Regina and I will shop for her dress, and we’re having dinner with P&C to discuss the wedding day. 4 weeks and counting….
