They Say It's Your Birthday
We celebrated Bryan’s birthday tonight by hitting the latest of the ten zillion restaurants to open in Oak Cliff. Cliff Cafe, attached to the super hip Belmont Hotel, just opened this week. Good diner style food, but typical opening week service. It was nice to see Craig, Philip, Martha and Bryan, since we’ve hardly seen them since the wedding. It was kind of a birthday theme day, since I took Lisa to the W Hotel’s Bliss Spa for massages and pedicures this morning for her birthday. Tomorrow I go to San Diego and then on to LA on Tuesday. By the time I get back, Autumn will be in the air. And next Saturday, I’m taking Regina to Exhale, the Hotel Palomar’s spa, for massages and pedi’s for HER birthday. I’m just a giver.

Joe Pool Lake
Took our bikes to Joe Pool Lake and rode to the Oasis, a truly average lakeside restaurant, and then rode back. Just the antidote to work stress and petty concerns… a little fresh air. Pix here
Nine Inch Nails
Our friend Geoff Hager had his work on display at Jacques Lamy Gallery on Dragon Street, so we buzzed by and caught a peek, including the painting and nail sculpture pictured above. Lisa and Howard were with us and we went on to catch a showing of Frank Gohlke at Photographs Do Not Bend, followed by yummy sushi at Oishii and little, tiny scoops of ice cream at Baskin Robbins…..pix here.
San Francisco Panini
I wandered out of the Hotel Palomar tonight to explore the surrounding area, which is Union Square. It was blocks of every upscale retailer you could think of. I wanted to take pictures, but the sidewalks were crowded and I felt too much like a tourist. I didn’t do much shopping, except to duck into Niketown to get another sports bra, but I just wasn’t in the mood for much more. I didn’t see any restaurants until I walked up to the square which had a little cafe. So I sat with my wine and panini and felt terribly sophisticated.
I left my heart…
in San Francisco… or Marin County to be exact. Actually, I didn’t leave anything there because I’m still here. Last night, after a two hour weather delay and a one hour mechanical delay, I made it in to SFO quite late. Henri of Boston Coach picked me up and got me out to Marin County in record time. I got up bright and early at 5 a.m. to utilize the fabulous workout room at the Acqua Hotel, and waddled past the front desk to inquire as to it’s location. “Oh, we don’t have that any more. I think we’re trying to take that out of all the room guides.” “Oh, well I’ll try to remember that during the rest of my miserable, exhausted day as I try to remember why I got up a 5 am for NO FUCKING REASON!” Bastards. Actually, I ended up walking around the lake pictured above a few times, so it wasn’t a total waste. Tonight, I’m at the Hotel Palomar in San Francisco. Hopefully, their Fitness Room won’t have disappeared tomorrow morning when I get up.
Culture Day

Ooooh, I like this Flickr slide show thingie! Here are my pix from our Culture Day in Fort Worth. Les’ can be seen on his blog: snafu.
Damn My Thumb to Hell
There were no photos allowed of the Ron Mueck exhibition at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. I tried to take some on the sly, but I managed to stick my big fat thumb in the frame. Nevertheless, cool, huh? Les said it was one of the best shows he’d seen in years.
We started the day at Ol South Pancake House, where I indulged in some delicious German pancakes. We proceeded to the the Modern Art Museum, and then to the Amon Carter, which I didn’t enjoy nearly as much. We capped off the day with a fat-fest at Angelo’s BBQ.
Now we’re curled up watching “Zodiac”…. mmmm, just the start of a four day weekend! A pictorial feast of food and art is here.
