A Little Gardening

Autumn Garden by you.

Good Mr. Hall spent the day planting stuff from our trip to Ruiball’s and Lowe’s.  We piled white pumpkins and orange mums on the front steps.  We added purple fountain grass, dwarf fountain grass, and some other really tall grass to the front beds to go with the mexican feather grass and asparagus ferns. All the grassiness seems to go well with the style of the house which is a 1920′s Craftsman bungalow.  I think we are finally happy with the look of the front yard and porch.  Although I’m not sure the hydrangeas in the big planter are going to survive.  But we’ll see.

Now Mr. Hall is in his workshop sanding the rolling barn doors for the living room.  We hung them awhile back, but we still needed to paint and varnish them.  We decided to use white milk paint and crackle for an old and faded look.  And Les found some great big barn door handles at Elliott’s on Friday.  So as soon as he is done sanding and waxing the doors, and adding the handles, we can hang them up!

And our oil paintings are getting framed and should be ready this week.  I’m obviously in decorating heaven.

Autumn Arrives

Autumn Arrives by you.

What a wonderful day.  Even though it was still in the high 80′s, it felt like Fall.  We went to our friend Steven and Marukh’s new cafe, Another Byte, and had yummy fajitas for lunch.  Then we headed over to Ruibal’s Plants for some ornamental grasses and white pumpkins.  And then a fabulous trip to Costco.  We LOVE Costco.  Then tonight we went to Bolsa with David and Janet.  We sat outside and had sangria, bruschetta, spinach salad and pizzas.  Plus some yummy desserts.  Hooray for Fall!  We can’t wait until it’s cold enough to get up on Sunday mornings and read the New York Times in front of the roaring fire.

Ewwww….

Ewwww!!! by you.

Sorry, hope you’ve had your dinner.  My feet aren’t my best feature under even ideal circumstances.  But this is my foot after spraining it on Saturday night, and then walking around in high heels all day today.  And yes, I’d had a glass of wine Saturday night.  What are you trying to say?

Anyway, I’m just posting this to show what a badass I am.  I can take some pain for my heels, dude.

So, now I’m going to kick back for the rest of the evening at the Hyatt Regency Century City.  I’m going to try to exercise tomorrow night, but between my ankle and all the starlets at the Equinox Spa and Gym, I’m afraid that room service and Movies On Demand have a better shot at my time…..

Ah, Dude?

Nice Orange Curtain by you.

Ah, dude!  I haven’t been blogging much lately because my life has not been very photogenic. I got back from Atlanta and had a lovely weekend, but nothing very exciting.  Today we went shopping, and then planted more stuff.  Then we went to Zen Sushi.  We had edamame, Ika Sansei salad, Sakura roll and spicy tuna roll.  The spicy tuna roll has a ton of chinese mustard on it and it makes you snort, gasp, and have a massive endorphin rush.  I love it.  I also had the Matua Valley Sauvignon Blanc.  Delish.  Tomorrow, more nothing special.  Then I head to L.A. on Monday.  I’m spending the whole week at Century City, and specifically at the Hyatt Century Plaza.  Nice digs.  Hopefully, I’ll get to do a bit of shopping.  LucySephoraCusp… Oh my!

Headed South

Sitting in the DFW Admiral’s Club. Obviously, the weather here has cleared up! Hurricane Ike didn’t do anything to Dallas except for a bit of rain on Saturday. Sunday was glorious, so I gave myself blisters planting some new stuff. We’ve decided to stick with native plants from now on. Easier to care for, and use much less water. And they look great too. Maybe I’ll post some pictures next weekend. For now, I’m headed to Miami and Atlanta for another one of those grueling dawn to dusk work weeks.

Hmmm, I can’t think of anything else to say about that!

Hurricane Ike. Big enough to fill the entire Gulf of Mexico. A 22 foot high wall of water will hit Galveston when the eye of the storm reaches shore, sending flood waters up into Houston. Winds will be 100 mph. Why do people live on the Gulf Coast again? I guess the other 360 days of the year are pretty nice.

Dallas will get heavy winds and rain. Gonna buy Sterno, candles, water, and canned goods. When Les and I first met, a storm put the power out at his house for a week. He almost lost his mind. Happy Stormiversary honey.

To Recap our vacation so far…

Hi Glenn

For Glenn by you.

I always do as I’m told.  So here is my picture under the sign for Avenida 9 de Julio… the widest street in the world.  Sixteen lanes.  So, what happens now?  If you send me your picture, I’ll post it here.  Unless you’re naked or something.  This is a PG 13 blog, after all.

So, today, only 18,000 steps or 7 miles.  We took a cab down to Puerta Madera.  There is a bridge there called Puenta de la Mujer.  I think it’s supposed to celebrate the feminine, but I’d say it’s a bit more phallic, if you ask me..  It’s by Calatrava, who also designed some of the bridges spanning the Trinity River near our house in Oak Cliff.

So then we walked a few miles up LaValle, a wide pedestrian street that was chockful of shops, restaurants and general bollocks.  Not to mention about ten million people.  We had lunch at Florida, walked to Plaza de Mayo, and then to the Galleria Pacifica, a very fancy mall.  After some cafe con leche, a submarino and some crap cookies, we headed home.  We did see a tango performance on the street across from the Galleria… quite entertaining.

Street Tango by you.

Tonight, we just went across the street to El Yugo for dinner.  I feel like I’ve eaten 72 steaks.  I can’t eat another piece of meat.  The Argentine diet is very interesting.  It mainly consists of steaks, potatoes, red wine and caramel.  I would seriously like some sushi right now!

Buenos Dias

Posted on September 2nd, 2008 in All This Useless Beauty,Living in Paradise,Motel Matches by Mrs. Hall

Cumana by you.

Day One of our vacation was actually spent flying to Buenos Aires, due to the 13 hour flight delay.  But Day Two was quite nice.  Breakfast at Cafe Bricca…. a stop at the Disco.  That’s a grocery store, btw.  Then, we met Mike and Terri, and they walked us around to some lovely places, including the Water Works and their fabulous apartment.  Then we had lunch at Cumana.  When we left them, we wandered up and down Santa Fe Avenue for the rest of the afternoon.  After a quick nap, we had dinner at Munich Recoleta, which apparently is a famous and touristy restaurant.  Also a very odd restaurant.  You could have performed surgery under the blazing lights and there was no music.  So we ate our giant slabs of steak in dazzling silence.  Other than our witty repartee of course.  Then we came back to enjoy the roof top hot tub.  Now, the apartment has hot water “on-demand”, and the hot tub was empty.  I guess so that they don’t have to maintain it with chlorine, etc.  So, an hour and a half later, we are still sitting naked in a half filled tub.  Sorry for the unwanted mental image.  But eventually it was almost full.  Then the jets of the hot tub sudden burst to life, in a slightly vertical trajectory, blasting directly into our ears, eyes and noses.  After we stopped screaming, we were able to locate the cut-off switch until the tub was more full.

Ah, sweet relaxation.  :-)

Today… we’ll probably walked out to Puerta Madera.  Yesterday we walked 22,000 steps!  I think that’s about 8 miles.  We might beat that today!  We’ll need to, if we’re going to burn off all the steak and ice cream….

Super Cool Delivery Bikes by you.

Pictures will be accumulating here.
