Anticipation…
That’s an appropriate song. Or maybe.. “Love… exciting and new!” Les and I will be celebrating Valentine’s Day at Rise No. 1 this year and I’m already excited. Rise is an ultra French salon de souffle and wine bar. It’s a stunning space and the food is out of this world. We’re going to be seated in the “birch forest”, which you can glimpse above. We ate there a few times when it opened. Here is the Valentine’s Day dinner menu. Mmmmm: Crabmeat and Boursin Souffle!
Snow Day
Aaah, a pleasure all too rare in the adult world, a stay-at-home snow day! Well, an ice day really. This morning, everything was coated in a nice 3/4 inch of solid ice, including our driveway. So, I’ve spent the day snuggled up in front of the fire. And ironically, it’s turned out to be a beautiful day: 44 and sunny by the afternoon. Oh well. The joys of technology mean I can work just as well at home. All the icy gorgeousness is on display here.
Sunday Dinner
Just sitting down to this delicious Tomato and Mozzarella Salad and the premiere of Lost. A lovely topper to a super weekend. It was awesome to hang out with Martha, Bryan, Philip and Craig Friday night… it’s been too long. And then last night we had sushi with Janet and David followed by some wine-fueled Wii Sports. It’s nice to feel really connected to our friends right now.
Cheers… and Pursuit…I’m not having Sauvignon Blanc! It’s more Shiraz!
Game Night
Our friends came over for a night of Costco pizza (awesome!), wine, and Catchphrase. Super fun! More entertaining is one of our New Year’s resolutions. However, it seems to be directly in conflict with the one about eating healthy…..
Added:
During the game:
The phrase the group is supposed to guess – “First Communion”
The clue that I gave – “When you’re Catholic, it’s what you get when you’re six years old”
The group’s answer – “Your first molestation?”
Eating + Shopping = Happy
This weekend we managed to eat at Chan Thai, Cafe Express, Cowboy Chow, Palomino, and Cafe Brazil. Good lord! No wonder I have to exercise so much.
Then we went shopping… We shopped Philip and Craig’s house (they have like 20 chairs in their living room alone), about 10 antique stores, Scott and Cooner showroom, a fabric store, Ikea and Home Depot. And we totally scored! Two new cocktail tables for the living room, and a new rug for the kitchen at the sample sale at Scott and Cooner, plus new curtains and a chair for my office, and some new throws at Ikea. AND the path lights we’ve been wanting for the front yard at HD. AND we picked out fabric to make curtains for our bedroom and recover Martha and Bryan’s loveseat that’s been in our garage for two years.
I feel very American considering all the patriotic economic stimulus I’m providing!
Shake It Like a Polaroid Picture
Sadly, Polaroid is no more. Who doesn’t remember the immediate satisfaction of taking a Polaroid picture: the snappy sound, the blurry image, the moments spent waiting for your picture to appear as you flapped it around. Oh well, how things change… but Poladroid will take your digital pictures and turn them into Polaroids… complete with the cool sound and the anticipation while the picture emerges.
Get ya some.
Portland, Oregon
I’ve never been to Portland, or Seattle, until this week. Wow… talk about breathtaking beauty. I could get used to this. Except for the bad hair days. I tried to take a picture of the gorgeous downtown on the river while in the backseat of a towncar, but it was a little tough. My favorite singer, Neko Case, is from Tacoma. I was planning on listening to Furnace Room Lullaby on the drive from Portland to Seattle, but I-5 is under 30 inches of water, so I’m having to fly instead. Tonight, I’m in the singularly unphotogenic Marriott Courtyard. It appears to be nestled in some isolated office park. Strangely, there is a Starbucks ensconced in the office building across the street. When I walked in, it was PACKED. And everyone was dressed like a lumberjack. Welcome to the Pacific Northwest.
Here is my favorite Neko song…. most striking voice I’ve ever heard…
I'm Moving!
Not houses… just offices. Above is my lovely old office. I’m not much into primary colors, but it kind of grew on me. And I didn’t have any choice anyway, since it came with a bright red door, as well as red and blue bulletin boards.
But now, I’m moving on up. My new office is larger and one side is a window with a view onto our little lake. It’s actually prettier than it looks on this gray January day. The only downside is the city is building a cemetery across the road. Oh well, I suppose it’s healthy to be reminded of mortality on a daily basis. Keeping perspective and all. My new door is blue, so my Keep Calm poster will still work!
I’ll keep updating during construction…..
