Heading Home

Howdy from the creamy, caramel-colored goodness that is the master suite of the Cypress Hotel in Cupertino, right outside of San Jose. I love the quirky patterns that they decorate with at Kimpton Hotels. Lots of over-sized polka-dots and animal prints. Too bad that I’m too tired to have a soak in that jacuzzi tub. Tomorrow I head back to Dallas after a week in Northern California. We’ll probably have our last fire of the season Saturday morning. Judging by last year’s pictures, the garden should begin springing to life any day now.

Still the cutest dog in the world.  Don’t know why her little legs look like flippers here, but whatever.

My New Secret Weapon

The delicious truffle-infused balsamic reduction makes any salad, regardless how humble the ingredients, into a gourmet delight.

Wow, I should be in advertising. But seriously. This stuff rocks, and it’s only 20 calories a tablespoon. Tonight we had it with salads of spring mix, pear, dried cherries, pecans, and goat cheese. Mmmmmm….

Valentine's Day

A beautiful day! And I’ve had a super three-day weekend. Yesterday, I just went to Central Market and then we went to a party for Gary’s birthday… Padma Lakshmi’s spicy beef and homemade Key Lime Pie.

This morning, we got up, went to Ikea, and then came home and had a delicious mid-afternoon nap. Then , a hot, pine-scented bath before dinner at Rise No. 1. The meal was fabulous: we had an amuse bouche of cheese and salmon crostini. Then Les had a signature Rise salad, while I had the marshmallow soup: tomato soup with basil drizzle and “marshmallows” of cheese souffle. The server recommended a wonderful rose sparking wine. Incredible! Then Les had steak, while I had a crab and boursin souffle… accompanied by a Sauvignon Blanc. Then we ended with Bread Pudding Souffle and Grand Marnier souffle. Our friend Hedda was there to play the host, and what a wonderful restaurant she has created. Eventually, we waddled home with a special treat of Delice Truffles as a gift from the restaurant.

Magnifique!

Also included in the above photo montage are some pics of the new kitchen sitting area and the living room, slightly updated. Our house, the never ending project! Also, you can see the delicious gingerbread and lemon cupcakes that I baked for Les.
