Get Thee to Maddie's Place

Shrimp and Grits

The gang took me out for Cajun food tonight.  The cafe is in a cute little restaurant row along Rebsamen Park Road.  It looks like a dive joint, but it has a great wine list and the chef/owner graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in New York.  All three of us ordered one of the specials:  Shrimp and Grits with Andouille Sausage Gravy, and a plate of bread.  All three of us cleaned our plate.  There may have been some finger and bowl licking, as well.  The rest of the menu looked completely, awesomely over-the-top.

Maddie’s Place.  If you ever have to be in Little Rock, at least you can eat there.

Social Networking Weekend

Posted on July 26th, 2009 in All This Useless Beauty,Party Girl by Mrs. Hall

Let’s go backwards.  This morning, I woke up at 6:30 and waited a whole two hours until I couldn’t resist anymore and woke Les up to go have french toast and bacon at Cafe Brazil.  Once I got home,  I spent an hour listening to a social networking for business webinar.  Sigh…

Last night, we went to Maximo with some dear friends of Les’.  Chet and Les used to share studio space, and Les was at their ranch near Alpine last weekend.    Maximo is a great restaurant with great food.  Above you see the Maximo Heat.  A margarita made with pureed jalapeno.  Oh yes.  Some people are saying it’s the best margarita in Dallas. I had the Sea Bass and it was to die.  The desserts, like the crepes and the churros, were also unbelievable.  Only the fact that I don’t know Chet and Patty that well prevented me from crawling face first into the bowls.

Friday night, we took our dentist (the best most gentle dentist ever) and his partner to their first ever sushi dinner.  Zen Sushi just won best  sushi in Dallas.  Gotta love these awesome Bishop Arts restaurants.  We’ve been trying to decide where to go on vacation in September and have been torn between Hawaii and Barcelona.  I think they tipped the scales to Hawaii.

Tomorrow, I leave for Little Rock.  Staying at the lovely Peabody.  I’ll say hello to the ducks for you.

Bambi!

Bambi!

Les spent the weekend at his friend Chet’s ranch in Alpine, TX. Apparently, beautiful vistas but not a lot of wildlife. However, he did stumble over little Bambi, waiting for his mommy. The fawn never moved. Apparently, they just hide in the brush and wait for mom to come back with food. I’ll post a link to his amazing pictures when he gets them posted.

Heading East

My creation

Tonight, I bid farewell to California and prepare to head home to Texas. I’ll sorely miss the beautiful weather in the Bay area. Above are some sights from my dinner on Santana Row at the Left Bank restaurant. Lots of gorgeous flowers to see while I enjoyed champagne and a duck confit tart. When I get home, Les will have headed out for a boy’s weekend in far South Texas, shooting guns and riding ATVs. Looks like it’s time for face masks and chick flicks…

Party Hearty

All the pizza, prosecco and Michael Jackson you could handle last night at Casey and Steve’s engagement party. We moved from house to pool to guest house and back. My boss’ pad is made for entertaining. Pictures of the all the 24-hour party people are here.

daisies and lilies

Our 2nd anniversary was on Tuesday. Les gave me two lovely bouquets and we went to eat at Neighborhood Services. I think it’s probably our favorite restaurant in Dallas right now. If only they took reservations! Tonight, we’re going to a fabulous Pizza and Prosecco party at my boss’ luxe compound. We are celebrating the engagement of one of my colleagues. My boss is a huge Michael Jackson fan, so we will be grooving to Thriller while we party.

99 Ducks

We had a rubber duck race today at work to benefit Community Partners of Dallas and The Rainbow Room. Basically, you could buy a duck for the race, and if you won you got a prize.

Duck Race

The nice firemen (!) gave the duckies a shove with their firehoses.

Mine was #7, in honor of the glorious date of our wedding: 7/7/07. Sadly, Little 7 did not win. But isn’t my company fun?
