Where Were We?

Ten Thousand Waves

Oh yes, we had just had Christmas dinner Friday night. Saturday morning, Geoff, Steph and I hit Ten Thousand Waves for Nose to Toes treatments. I didn’t take any pictures, but above is one from last year.

Flamenco

That night we went to El Farol, where we had amazing tapas and paella, and enjoyed the most incredible flamenco performance.

Anchovies with Crusty Bread

The anchovies and crusty bread might not look that pretty, but they tasted wonderful. As did everything else!

An Incredible Tapas Feast

I think we might have over-ordered. :-)

Skull

Sunday, Geoff and Stephanie went back to Dallas and we went on to Jackalope, a really fun shopping compound with all kinds of Mexican and Native American crafts and decorations.

Loretta Chapel

Last night, Les took me to a Baroque Christmas concert at the Loretto Chapel. Lovely Handel arias and traditional Christmas carols. Very wonderful. We finished the evening at the Ore House with Margarita’s and Queso.

Today has been low-key: breakfast at the Tune Up Cafe, some shopping in railyard area, and hanging by the fireplace. Tonight is sushi, maybe, and we’re planning a day-trip to Jemez Springs tomorrow. Happy Holidays!

Christmas Day FIre

The vacation continues… yesterday consisted of lots of hanging around the fireplace in our hotel room, more margaritas and Mexican food at Del Charro, a matinee of Avatar complete with 3-D glasses, cocktails at Leon and Caldwell’s and an incredible Christmas dinner at La Plazuela at the La Fonda hotel. You’ll see that we even have our friends taking food pics. And some food pics follow, in fact.

This morning we went for massages at Ten Thousand Waves and I hit the stores on the Plaza pretty hard. Tonight… a mystery activity organized by Mr. Hall… Hmmmmm, what can it be!?

Day One Santa Fe

Santa Fe Christmas LIghts

Pretty perfect! We flew directly into Santa Fe with our friends Geoff and Stephanie. A quick fifteen minute drive later, we were in our hotel rooms. We kicked off the holiday with Margaritas and Mexican food at Del Charro. After a yummy nap, we went to La Cantina for more Margaritas and Mexican food accompanied by show tunes from the servers. Nice and full, we wandered Canyon Road looking at the lights and farolitos. And then wound up with Texas Irish Coffees at the bar. Today we’ll probably catch a movie, then drinks at Leon and Pamela;s followed by Christmas dinner at the restaurant at the La Fonda hotel – La Plazuela.

Bowling at Dallas 300

The company management team had our holiday party at Dallas 300, a nifty bowling alley. I won “Most Spirited” Cheerleader. I got a plaque and everything.

Patry’s

Patry's

OMG! Awesome, cream-ladened, butter-drenched french food. Patry’s has wonderful food in an unpretentious little house on Lover’s Lane. Daniel Patry tends to each table with loving care and the two waiters give understated, but expert service. Yay for a small, excellent restaurant.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

WOW!

Candles balanced on her head

Pardon the poor picture quality, but I was working with an iPhone and a very dark restaurant. Last night was the Sidedish Supper Club at Samar. All I can say is WOW! Really the most fun and the most incredible food and wine I have had in quite a while. Stephan Pyles was a warm and attentive host, the belly dancers were incredible… but most of all…. THE FOOD! Every dish (after dish) was a delicious, delightful, mouth-watering treat. The wine pairings were exquisite. Others have recapped it far more articulately than I can. We can’t wait to go back to Samar for more!

Mr. Hall’s recap, where Nancy Nichols and Stephan Pyles comment!

And the official D Magazine recap.

Our own personal belly dancer

PS… the belly dancers danced with swords and lighted candles balanced on their heads… not both at the same time of course. They mercilessly sexually harassed all the men at our table. And one of them rolled a row of 5 coins up and down her belly … ONE AT A TIME. Scary, but fascinating.

Bishop Arts

Happy holiday lights around Bishop Arts for Jinglebells on Bishop. You’ve gotta give the Bishop Arts merchants a lot of credit. They really work to give people a reason to come out and shop, eat and play.

Tonight… Sidedish Supper Club at Samar!
