How I Spent My Birthday, by Eva Hall

Flowers

I came home from work on Friday to these beautiful flowers from Les. Then we went and checked into the Palomar. We had fish and chips at Trinity Hall with our most favoritest friends, G&S, followed by cocktails at the Palomar bar.

Bar

Saturday morning I had a massage and pedi at the Palomar Spa – Exhale. I sat and stared at this fruit bowl, surrounded by women in robes and sandals, while waiting. Les was happy watching HD TV post-room service breakfast while I was buffed and polished. This was followed by more room service and Inglourious Basterds in our room.

Central 214

Saturday night we ate at Central 214. We liked. Fried lobster and grits appetizer and scallops entree for me. A three course tasting menu for Les: jalapeno corn soup, pot roast, and spice cake. Yum. And today, back to our snow covered house and happy-to-see us doggies.

Happy Birthday To Me

Spent my birthday in California…one of the stores got me this lovely cake. But the big celebration will be this weekend… two nights at the Palomar, Friday night dinner with friends, Saturday morning girl time at the hotels’ spa – Exhale and Saturday night dinner with Les at Central 214 – the hotel’s very popular restaurant. And we’re bringing Izzy! Yay. The Palomar is very dog-friendly: they give you a dog bed and little dog bowls. So cute!

A Good Day for Gardening

Sweet broom

Sunny and 70. Guess Spring is sprung. We found these Sweet Broom at Lowe’s. Got a whole bunch and massed them out in the front beds. Yay. Just the first of many gardening days.

Dallas Chop House

Onion Ring

Bleh. We finished the day with an underwhelming meal at Dallas Chop House. It started promisingly as the chef, Kenny Mills, saw us come in and invited back to the much-publicized Himalayan salt-lined meat cooler. Neat. But our server was as nervous as a high school boy on a first date. And the food was uneven. Popovers and sides like Crawfish Maque Choux were unbelievably good. But other sides were so coated in salt that they were almost inedible. The steaks were good though.

The nail in the coffin however, was when one of the owners stopped by and asked us how everything was. We replied that dinner was good, although somethings were way too salty. He went, “Uh huh”, and walked away! So rude. I can forgive a new restaurant that is still getting its legs under it, but rudeness and bad service are killers. Dallas Chop House is probably the 10th steak house to open in Dallas recently. And their location is “re-gentrifying”. Better step it up boys.

Hello Spring

Mmmmm Bread

White Rock Farmers Market is definitely the best one we’ve been to in Dallas. And it didn’t hurt that yesterday was the most beautiful day of the year.

Kids

After the farmer’s market, we went with Geoff to Matt’s Rancho Martinez. We sat outside and had margaritas and Mexican food. Perfection.

Monday Night Sky

Bishop Arts Sky

We went for our usual Monday night sushi with our houseguest, Robert. The sky was beautiful and the clouds were moving so fast that it looked like time-lapse photography. Hello Spring.

Bye Bye Beach

Thank heavens I can stop coming to Florida. I hate the airports, the weather, the clothes and the extensive plastic surgery on men AND women. I walked on the beach today. Why would you go to the beach and then arrange your chairs to face a wall?

We open our beautiful new store tomorrow, you can see it above, and had the grand opening party last night.

It was quite a shindig. Here is a good representative of the guests on the right side of the picture. She had to be at least 60. My boss got her card. She is a vibrational massage therapist. She was also wearing zebra panties. I wish I didn’t have to know that, but I do.

Bend

Walking up the hill

Spent a quick weekend at the Hager’s cabin in Bend, Texas. Beautiful weather… great company… sleeping with the windows open… food grilled over a campfire. So fun! More pics here and here.

Now… to Florida! No comment please Pursuit!
